Christmas Tree Runner

Today I have a special treat for you! This super cute Christmas Tree Table runner. I am still trying to decide if I will keep this or sell it. Decisions, decisions!! And yes my table is super glossy!

I got the idea from Pinterest, of course! I didn't really need a pattern, I just cut some trees out of green and then the trunk out of brown. I appliqued them onto cream and sewed the red strip around it. Then it sat in my sewing room for a couple of months. We all get projects like that right?!

But once December hit, I busted it out again and added the final cream border and then quilted it up. I absolutely loved quilting this - I think that I could machine quilt all day long! I did pebbles under the trees - kind of like rocks, and then swirls in the middle, with lines on the outside. Simple but perfect!

I think I have mastered the swirls, but those pebbles were a little bit tricky at first, but overall I really like how it turned out!

And all beautiful with my ornament lantern in the middle of it.

I even love the back. Oh, and I quilted straight lines on the trees to just give them a little something extra. I wanted the straight lines to offset all the swirls and pebbles.

And isn't it just beautiful?! Really I do love this, but I don't have a need for it so I will probably list it in my Etsy shop. That is if I get any free time before Christmas!

Christmas Shopping - DONE!

 This past week I finished all of my Christmas shopping! It is glorious! I did most of it online this year because I live way too far away from any stores and when ever I go to them I always have a couple of kids with me. Now I just have to wait for all of them to show up! And I get to enjoy the rest of the holiday season without worrying about who still needs what!

This year I actually made our presents look cute! Instead of using a sharpie and just writing on them to/from I used my cricut and cut out letters for each of my kids, then taped that letter on the front of their package.

I love how simple and clean it looks. And notice that backwards J? My littlest was helping my husband wrap my present and he was in charge of taping the J on. He was so excited to help that My husband just let him do it his way!

Christmas Star Quilt Listed!

I decided that since the stores are starting to put out their stuff for Christmas I might as well get some stuff in my Etsy shop. Really this is the only thing in there right now. I am just waiting for a few more things to get ready and then take some pictures!

Christmas Quilt

Today I have an early Christmas in July project to share with you. A simple Christmas quilt.

This simple Christmas quilt is perfect for snuggling up with your kids and reading Christmas books, or listening to Christmas music, or just looking at the lights on the tree.

I actually made this quilt a while ago, but homeschooling took top priority for a while. I used a bunch of different fabrics that I loved together.

I backed it with cream and used a red binding. I love how that just makes the binding pop. I quilted it with a large all over loop pattern.

I love this quilt, it has me wishing for Christmas and all of the traditions and fun that comes with it. But at the same time not the snow, we had a super long winter up here by the north border and I am loving my sunshine and warmth right now!

The pattern comes from Moose on the Porch Quilts book Simply Charming Two, but I added the red square in the middle to tie my red border and binding together with it all. That book is out of print right now, but you can click on the link to see some of her other books that are very user friendly and quick, easy, beautiful quilts.

This is really a big quilt, it is roughly 72"x72". I am also selling it if you are interested please shoot me an email and I can give you more information!

Christmas Quilt

This is a quilt I made last year and I never showed you all. I love it - especially since it was just Christmas! And I was mia for a few months at the end of the year. But I am here now and have this great quilt that I love to share with you!

I got all these squares from a grab bag of fabric that I have had in my closet for a while now! Something like 2 years, but who is counting!

I had a pattern for this quilt that I used, it was quite easy - just sew all the squares together! The hardest part was finding something to use as sashing. I ended up using some pine cone bough fabric that I had in my stash as well. It worked well because it was light and did not distract from the squares.

I quilted it with a simple all over loop, and love how it turned out!

I love how the red binding really pops!

And I just finished quilting a 'Fire & Ice" quilt for one of my sisters, I hope to get some pictures of it before I mail it off to her and share it with all of you and share it with her to see!

Christmas Clearance

I know you are probably not expecting a Christmas decoration post, but I found something great on clearance this year. I did not go out and look for any good Christmas clearance this year. But when I saw these I just had to get some!

I was at Ace looking for something and I found these huge red jingle bells. I just love them, and knew that a few of them needed to make it into my home. 

My friend has this super cute jingle bell on her door and I love it. I decided that I was going to make one of those.

I got two new scarfs for Christmas and one still had that little round thing on it and it was the prefect size for what I was wanting to do.

I attached the scarf circle to the bell and then took my twine and wrapped it all the way around. I glued the ends so that they would not unravel. Easy peasy.

I then added a little ribbon bow just for good measure and because it looked really plain and boring without it.

And then I hung it on my door - for like a day before I put all the Christmas decorations away. But I will sure be enjoying this next year!

Our weather here has been super and we have loved being able to play outside and not freeze for the last few days before winter break was over! But now the kids are back in school and I am trying to regain my house!

Nativity Ornament

This year I did not make very many crafts. This cute and simple ornament is one of them.

We made this ornament at my craft group. I got the idea from pinterest, where all the great ideas come from. It only took about 10 minutes, and that was with the cutting the one clothes pin. I am not the best, and you can see that from my not so good cutting job.

I hope that you all had a great Christmas, we enjoyed relaxing and spending time with each other. I hope to post about my other Christmas decoration. Even though it is after Christmas, there is nothing like get a head start on next year!

Monogram Stockings

I have this thing about matching. I love it when things match and look good together. You would not know this looking at my house, but I really do like this. For a while my kids all had various stockings that were really an eye sore to me when they were all hung up together. So I got this great idea to make stockings.

It was not really that hard. I took a pattern off of Conan's stocking from when he was a kid and just made 7 of them. I used felt because that was what my stockings were made out growing up. I really like the monogram because then you can always tell whose is whose, and it just looks so classy I think. So I found a font I liked on my computer and made a stencil out of it and cut out my letters. I stitched around the letters by hand and then glued them to the white part of the stocking.

 

This was super easy, a little time consuming because I had to make so many of them. But now they are very eye pleasing when lined up for Santa.

Nativity Parade

 I love nativities, and so when I saw that Char over at Crap I've Made was doing a nativity parade I just had to participate. I would have to say that my Willow Tree nativity is my favorite one right now, probably because it is my most recent one to acquire. But I love all of them for various reasons.

I even made a digital scrapbook page about them - that is how bad my obsession is!

Faux Metal Stars

cThe other day I saw this wreath(and of course I cannot find the name to give proper credit  you can find it here), and loved the stars. I immediately thought that they would make cute ornaments for Christmas.
I found two pieces of cardstock that I thought would look a little bit vintage and cut out 4 stars apiece at 5 3/4 inches on my cricut with the Platinum Schoolbook cartridge and used the roly poly feature just like she did. I then scored it to make it the 3-D star shape. At first they just started to flatten out. I wasn't sure what I did, but I decided to put some mod podge on the back of them so that they would hold their form better. And they did.
After that I distressed them a little bit with some chalk ink, if I make more of these I would do this step first because after the mod podge dried I could not get into the creases that were in between the points.
Then I just punched a little hole in them and added some cream twine and hung them up. I think that they look just like those metal ones that you buy, only they did not cost so much!
