Row Organization for Quilts

Do you ever have one of those weeks where you are just waiting for the weekend so that you can relax and not have so much going on? That was me for the last half of this week. The first two days were great, but then everything snuck up on me and now it is Friday!! Finally, and it is Homecoming here in this tiny little town and to go along with this there is a parade in town for the elementary kids - so I am going to watch my kids in a parade this afternoon!

Anyway, enough about my crazy life, today I have something great for you.

When I was visiting or talking with my sister she shared this technique with me about how she keeps her rows in order while she sews them together. This way you do not sew them onto the wrong side or worse.

After she has each row sewn together she marks them with pins indicating which row it is. For example row one gets one pin and row two gets two pins and so on. Here we have row one:

I don't know about you but something usually happens between me picking up my rows off the floor and getting them to my machine that has me questioning whether they are in the right order or not. However, I tried this technique and it was great!! No more questioning and unpicking when I realize my mistake!!

Here is row two:
Can it get any simpler than this? I was sort of having a duh, why didn't I think of  that when she told me about this!

Super simple and easy, right?! Row three:

And I will spare you pictures of all of my rows for this quilt, but here is one more to make row four:
Now that my quilt top is all sewn together with no mistakes I am off to bundle up for this parade, because it is already getting cold here!

Enjoy!

My Antique Singer!

My husband loves me, he really does. Today is my birthday and this is what he got me this year!! I've loved them from a distance for a while, but I had a friend get one recently and it has really made me want one! And thanks to craigslist we found one that was kind of close and we took an adventure and picked it up!
I just love it! I plan on sewing on it so I have to pick up a few things, a new belt and some needles and bobbins, but other than that it is in great condition! Isn't is just lovely?! And even all closed up it looks beautiful!!
I was just beyond happy! I could just look at it all day!! But instead I am going to go and sew!

Storm Trooper Quilt

This is what I did this weekend:

Yep, I am making a storm trooper quilt!!

One of my boys was a little bit bummed that I didn't make his quilt - I found his on clearance. I have been looking forever for the perfect quilt, and this one is it! I found the idea here.

It is super easy, I am writing up a pattern for it as I make it so that you will be able to make one yourself!!

Super Hero Quilt

I have been sewing up a storm lately! And it has been great. Ever since I finished my quilt along I was in the mood to finish up projects instead of just leave them and get to them whenever.

And much to my little ones delight I have the top of his quilt finished. And it is huge!!

I was originally going for a twin size, but then I decided just a little bigger, and well I am not sure what happened because now it is almost a queen! Oh well, at least there will be plenty of quilt for him to snuggle under!
And when I wanted to take pictures the wind would not stop blowing, so I just embraced it, and we get some pictures with character!
Not all of my points completely lined up, but that is ok, because there is some that were right on! I liked using these triangles because it was a little bit different than my normal squares.
Here we get some better pictures of it and notice the little bodies of my helpers? They were all more than willing to help me out, it was sweet. Isn't this just the best quilt? It is currently my favorite.
I love how this turned out! I am not going to wait for my longarm to quilt it because he really just wants it done. I had an a-ha moment for how to quilt this the other night on pinterest. I remember seeing something and thinking that was a cool idea, and of course did not pin it. But I am going to try something new here, so stay tuned and I'll post some pictures soon!

Happy Birthday Banner

I have had this project done for a while, but have had a hard time getting a picture that was good. I finally decided to just use what I had and post this!

Here is my Happy Birthday banner! This banner is the perfect decoration for a birthday - simple and classy!

I really love this, a lot! So much so that I decided to make some for my sisters for Christmas (if you are reading this act surprised). The ones on instagram were the ones I just finished making for them.

This is really an easy project, the only thing I sewed on was the ribbon! The rest I used my cricut and by stampin up die cuts.

Here we have a close up of some of the pennants, this was taken before I changed out the ribbon on the top.
I am not sure if you can tell but I ruffled my ribbon that connects the pennants. I had originally just sewn fabric on like bias tape, but then I saw something on pinterest and it just stuck with me and gave me the idea that I should ruffle it. Or course I cannot find it again, but I like the result I came up with. You can see it here where I ruffled one for my sister.

And here are some of the letters I used. I used a different fabric for each letter. I used the remnants from my birthday quilt so they are kind of tied together! I cut the letters with my cricut - pretty much the only thing my cricut cuts now days!

I was really on a roll when I started making these and wanted to make a banner for everything! Luckily I didn't, but I did make a congratulations banner for baby showers.

I did blue letters on one side and pink on the other with a yellow ribbon connecting them. These pennants are a little bit smaller, which is good because congratulations is a long word!
Here is a close up of the congratulations one, you can sort of tell the difference in the sizes here - these are about 4" where as the birthday ones are almost 10".

And because I took so many pictures of my banner I am going to share some more with you - they are not the best but they can give you a better idea of what it looks like.
This will tell you how long I have had this, here I have it hanging in my old house - and I moved just over a year ago!

I tried to take this one with the curtains open - that did not work!
This picture is not that great, but it does give you a glimpse of my birthday quilt! I am going to try and get some pictures taken of that and post for you next week!
If you are interested in one of your own, I would love to make one for you. Just send me an email of what colors you want and I will let you know the prices (roughly $1 per pennant).

Super Hero Quilt

Here is the progress I have made so far on this super hero quilt. I based this off this pattern from Jaybird Quilts.

We have our solid triangles all cut and the pattern fabric sewn around the edges.

And then we also have the pattern fabric with the solid around the edges.
Since I have taken these I have started figuring out the placement of each triangle and sewn one row together. Hopefully I will be able to finish it up here soon, but I have been a little bit preoccupied altering clothes for a few friends that are attending the Air Force Ball this weekend. I should have all of their stuff done tomorrow, and then it is back to this quilt!!

Super Hero Party!

I did not get much sewing done this last week, because I was planning this fabulous party for my 4 year old. In our house when you turn 4 you get your first friend party - so my boy was super excited. He invited all three of his friends, and then a couple high school girls who taught him swimming lessons this summer. He really loved those girls and they were so sweet they even came to his party!

I am a lover of Pinterest for a ton of reasons, but one of them you can find some great party ideas on there. Which is where I got most of these!

We had some leftover cups with lids from another birthday and so I used those to make these super hero cupcake holders.

For the sucker I cut out a mask shape and just colored in the eyes. For the cape I took some of the leftovers from his super hero quilt and starched them so they stuck out behind. And my sons favorite was this superman one:
I stuffed tissue paper in the bottom and then balanced the cupcake on top of it. Then put the lid on and stuck the sucker through the hole in the top of the lid.
For games my husband drew this city (it is an aerial view) and we had the kids leap over building in a single bound. They thought it was pretty cool.
We had this table cloth for them to color while they colored some masks.
Here is the set up, the cupcakes to take home, some cupcakes to eat, a small jar of candy to use their super powers and guess how many where in it, and the bomb pinata.
Conan was in charge of the pinata and he did awesome! Here is a close up of the ticking time bomb:
We also had them balance across this tape with flames on either side, because super heros have to be able to walk across fire
Now the party is over and the kids have gone to school and I have plans to sew today! Hopefully I can make some progress on that super hero quilt since it was supposed to be for his birthday!

Enjoy!
